General advice – the nurse will give you personal advice tailored to your treatment.

Before treatment

  • Tell us about any medicines (especially blood thinners), allergies, pregnancy/breastfeeding, herpes and previous treatments.
  • Come without make-up in the area to be treated, and with freshly washed skin.
  • Avoid alcohol the day before and on the day unless otherwise agreed.
  • Avoid sunburn and active skin irritation in the area.

After treatment

  • Avoid make-up and heavy sweating for the first 24 hours.
  • Use a gentle cleanser and plenty of moisturiser; avoid acids/retinol for the first 3–5 days unless otherwise agreed.
  • Use sunscreen (at least SPF 30) daily.
  • Avoid sauna, tanning beds and hard exercise for the first 24–48 hours.

This is normal

  • Small swellings (wheals) at the injection sites that disappear within 1–3 days.
  • Slight redness, tenderness and small bruises.
  • The skin often feels dry or tight before it becomes softer over weeks.
